I like rugged storage boxes, but I could never find one that checked all the boxes for me. So I went on the quest to create my dream box.
I’ve been tweaking my design for months now and after hundreds of test prints and prototypes, I finally ended up with a design I was happy with. The hinges and latch were the biggest challenge, and once those were working exactly the way I wanted, it was time to build something useful around them.
So here is the first release in my BoxBox series:
The BitBox
Why is this one different
Completely hardware-free: No screws, no bolts, no inserts. Everything is printed.
Repairable by design: Hinges and latch are separate parts. If something breaks, you reprint just that piece, not the whole box.
Integrated spring latch: The latch snaps closed automatically when you push the lid down, and stays shut.
Support-free and Strong: Designed from the ground up for additive manufacturing. e.g. no bolt holes that cause stress fractures or require additional thickness.

Variants
My ultimate bit loadout
Large Bit only
40x 50mm bits
Small Bit only
20x 50mm bits
Recommended print settings:
PETG
0.2 mm layer height
3 perimeters
don't change the part orientation
the large boxes require 3 hinges
the small box requires 2 hinges
Assembly Instructions
Hinges
Take the Hinges and snap them into the base hinge slots at a 45° angle.

Position the lid at a 45° angle relative to the hinges. Start on one outer side and slide the first hinge into its lid slot.
Slowly wiggle and guide the remaining hinges into the lid slots until all three snap fully into place.

Latch
Hold the latch at a 90° open position relative to the lid front.
Insert the latch at an angle so the left mounting pin on the lid slips into the hole on the latch.
Pivot the right side towards the lid until the latch snaps over the opposite mounting pin.
Rotate the latch downward until it forcefully snaps past the detent into its fully closed position.

PS: The modular bit holder is also available separately if you want to build your own custom layout:
PPS: As this is the first BoxBox release, so I'm sure there are things I can still improve. If you print one, I'd love to hear what you think. Feedback, suggestions, and ideas for future BoxBox variants are always welcome.
