Rabbet / Rebate Plane

Rabbet or rebate plane are often made from wood, including the version that inspired this design from Rex Kreuger. This version, however, allows your 3D printer to build the tool for you while you work on the rest of your project. This version is designed for a 3/4" Dewalt chisel, but I have included the source CAD file so other chisel sizes can be made. The chisel goes in bevel down and is held in place by a wedge. I find it best to roughly place the chisel and wedge in the body of the plane then lightly tap the chisel in to depth rubbing a small piece of wood over the mouth to check the depth. Use M3x10 - 12 screws to secure the handle and fence. A bit of wax on the sole also goes a long way in making it cut smooth shavings.

I would recommend printing the body in PETG, I tired PLA at first for stiffness, but PETG seems to have better wear resistance than PLA. The body also benefits from some extra strength - 40% gyroid infill and 5 perimeters worked. The extra infill also added some nice weight. The other parts can be printed for more standard structural settings.
