Set of magnetic stands for tree clusters into Warmaster Revolution. Goal is to:
Improve stability, compared to individual trees
Simplify handling - no need to put individual trees on table. Easy removal in case units enter the woodland area.
Easier storage and transportation, thanks to magnets.
Tree clusters are supposed to be put into something determining the woodland area. In attached pictures represented by neoprene objectives, but that is just temporary.
My process is to:
Prepare trees
Get a variety of trees, for example from Temu.
Shake of excess foliage. Temu trees tend to lose them a lot. What would you expect for that price?
Optionally: Glue trees temporarily on magnets or attach them into some handle.
Dip trees in a mixture of water and PVA glue (roughly 1 part PVA glue, 9 parts water) and let them dry. You may dry them upside down for a few initial hours, to prevent spilling the mix into the trunk. Reason is to further reduce the amount of foliage falling off.
Paint trees. We have used airbrush on tree crowns and wash+drybrush on tree trunks. Exact colors are lost in mists of time, but in the end its better to have a bigger color variety.
Varnish trees with matt varnish, either via airbrush such as AK Interactive Ulta Matt Varnish or from can such as AK Matt Varnish Spray. Always try your varnish on some spare part before using on a bigger batch.
Prepare bases
Print bases. Huray, we are finally printing something! Use 0,1 mm layer including the first layer.
Glue magnets. Slots are designed for Ø5x1mm round magnets
Apply texturing paste. In my case AK Interactive Terrains Dark Earth. Make sure that you won't accidentally fill tree holes.
Drybrush and rim with Citadel Steel Legion Drab or similar.
Apply static grass, tufts, bushes and other desired basing products. Let glue cure properly
If you have collected spare and fallen foliage from trees, you can use it as well. It tends to be too bright by default. You may mix it with dry pigment and shake thoroughly. Just do it with dry product, no water, no glue. Add pigment in small doses and shake in some enclosed box torrougly to mix it.
Varnish result, optionally mask tree holes to make sure that glue in next steps sticks to the clean surface.
Assemble - we are going to finish!
Decide which trees go where. It is better to try dry fit. Narrow down tree trunks where needed.
Glue trees and let glue cure.
You may apply a bit of basing paste around the connection to mask it and dry brush it.
And that's it!
