Why Corner Guides?

I'm building some PCBs and found the Stencil-Fix from scheffield which uses a vacuum to pull the stencil down to the PCB. However, when I printed it and got the springs, I noticed that usually the pcb holder would just slide off when the lifter is too high.

From the video, it looked like the lifter was supposed to be half of the height of the pcb holder so it does not slide out, but relying on a non-constrained axis to keep another non-constrained part seemed iffy to me... Not that it doesn't work, but I wanted more assurance that the pcb holder wouldn't slide out between the lid and the lifter and put solder paste on the plastic, as well as remove the solder paste.

The naive solution would probably have been to thicken the PCB holder; however, printing the lifter, lid, and pcb holder took more than 15 hours in total. This is mainly due to the number of cavities in the print to allow for the vacuum to hold. Rather than increase the thickness, I chose to add in corner guides instead.

Printing Instructions

Intentionally, this only includes the modified parts, which is the lifter and the lid. You should check out scheffield's Stencil-Fix github to get the rest of the files, which you can find below:
https://github.com/scheffield/stencil-fix/tree/main/stl

I actually had a lot of trouble printing this on my printer because of how many retractions the print caused. My printer has a all-metal hotend, so the constant retractions caused the hotend to clog very often on the first layer. Thus, my general recommendation is to disable retraction in your settings. You can try printing it with retraction if your printer can handle the retractions per layer, but it may cause clogs.

Tldr, disable retractions to reduce clogging. This applies for the lid, lifter, and pcb holder.

Other Design Notes

I forgot that there was a redesign also available on Printables that has its own remix while I was making this modification... It has some nice additions actually, but I printed the original stencil-fix first and I wasn't in need of two vacuum stencil tools so uh... yea...

In general, the Stencil-fix is very time-consuming to print. At minimum, expect it to take around 24 hours of time and a lot of filament to print everything.
