CairnShift is a one-piece sculptural vase formed from three softly faceted, stone-like volumes that appear to balance above narrow shadow seams. Each volume shifts in a different direction and gently rotates its oval axis, creating a new silhouette as the vase is turned.
Instead of relying on a repeated surface pattern, CairnShift creates its visual impact through proportion, balance and negative space. The calm, architectural surface works especially well in matte, marble and stone-effect filaments.
FEATURES
• Original three-balanced-stone silhouette
• One-piece, support-free design
• Approx. 110.6 × 109.3 × 220 mm
• Smooth, continuous inner vessel
• Modeled 2.0 mm wall and 3.8 mm bottom
• Stable footprint and print-friendly transitions
• High-resolution, closed manifold STL
• Blender source included
PRINT SETTINGS
• Orientation: upright, exactly as supplied
• Nozzle: 0.4 mm
• Layer height: 0.20 mm; use 0.16 mm for finer transitions
• Line width: 0.42–0.46 mm
• Walls/perimeters: 4 recommended; 3 minimum
• Top solid layers: 4–5
• Bottom solid layers: 8–10
• Infill: 0%
• Supports: none
• Brim: optional 5–7 mm
• Outer-wall speed: 30–40 mm/s
• First-layer speed: 15–25 mm/s
• Seam: aligned on the least visible side
• Arachne/variable-width wall generation recommended
The STL already contains a modeled 2.0 mm wall and a 3.8 mm bottom. Use normal printing mode; do not enable Spiral/Vase mode.
MATERIALS
Matte PLA gives CairnShift a convincing carved-stone appearance. Marble PLA emphasizes the sculptural form, while silk PLA creates stronger highlights. PET-G is a good choice when improved moisture resistance and impact strength are useful.
DEVIL DESIGN PET-G STARTING PROFILE
• Nozzle: 230–240 °C; start at 235 °C
• Bed: 70–80 °C; start at 75 °C
• Part cooling: 30–50% after the first layers
• Retraction: use the calibrated PET-G value for your printer
• Dry the filament if stringing, bubbles or a rough surface appear
SCALING
The model is intended for 100% scale. Scaling to 80% reduces the modeled wall to about 1.6 mm and the bottom to about 3.0 mm. Avoid aggressive downscaling because every modeled thickness is reduced with the rest of the vase.
WATER USE
A geometrically watertight STL does not guarantee a watertight FDM print. Before using fresh flowers, test the finished print over a sink for several hours. Additional perimeters, calibrated flow, PET-G, a removable liner or a suitable interior sealant can improve water resistance.
The geometry has been digitally validated as one closed manifold component with no open edges, degenerate triangles or critical downward overhangs. The model has not yet been physically print-tested.
