ODD 5.25" Desk Mount

Mount your old 5.25" Optical Disc Drive under your desk and add a sleek way to keep old hardware and physical media alive! Now with an optional more skeletonized version.

Mine is designed around an old drive from an Optiplex. But it should fit most standard drives as far as I know. It probably will hold all drives that fit in by friction alone. Or you use the bottom four mounting screws.

The mounting holes for under the desk are designed around 3mm counter sunk wood screw holes.

I used PLA, 3 walls and 5% adaptive cubic infill. I only used supports under the 4 drive scews. The wood scew holes printed fine as is. Print orientation was on the face that later faces down away from the desk. I recommend to use brim/"mouse ears" for the corners unless your adhesion is great. On the A1 I used with Bambu filament and texture sheet as well as the A1 prototype printed on an XL the edges all lifted a bit.

The B version is best printed the same orientation as the A version. I does need supports under the overhangs for mounting and the frame bridges. Automatic painting worked pretty well for me. It will save a bit of filament (with supports: A2 around 130g, B1 around 90g, give or take 10g depending on your settings). Be careful when removing the supports to not snap of the mounts with the screw holes.

And little tech PSA: When adding your Sata adapter, make sure it supports the neccessary protocol and gets 12V supplied as ODDs need 12V Sata power alongside the 5V power over USB.
