Small keychain of the namesake weapon of Supergiant Game's Transistor. That big greatsword that looks like an USB drive. Dimensions are 8.5 cm x 3.2 cm x 4 mm / 3.4 in x 1.3 in x 0.12 in (LxWxH).

Made using PLA for the face parts and the backplate, and TPU 95A "core" sandwitched in the middle - this way it's still rigid, but flexes a bit. Parts need to be glued together using CA glue / Superglue, so some assembly is required.

Includes the STL files for each of the parts, a STEP file with all the objects, and the 3MF file created using OrcaSlicer.

Printing settings

I printed this with a 0.4mm nozzle on an Elegoo Centauri Carbon, with speeds around 60mm/s to keep the details, avoid TPU issues, and decrease the chances of the nozzle knocking any of the tiny parts. Results are good, but a 0.2mm nozzle would probably be way better, and could allow for higher speeds.

Layer height: 0.1 mm
Line width: default settings (0.42 mm)

Wall generator: Arachne (deals with somewhat inconsistent thin walls in the TPU "core")

Wall loops: 3
Top shell layers: 6
Bottom shell layers: 5

Ironing: on / topmost surface only (even for the TPU part, that gives a different texture to the handle parts and the middle of the "eye")

Assembly

There are two big parts - a green PLA backplate and a black TPU 95A core - and a bunch of smaller PLA parts, to be glued to the TPU core:

  • Yellow / golden: handle, pads (1 to 7)

  • Green: plate upper (1 and 2), plate, circle

  • Light blue: traces (1 to 3), plate upper (3)

  • Red: circle 2

The figures below have an exploded view of it, and where each of the smaller parts are to be glued into the TPU part.

Notes

  • The PLA front parts were shrank and the PLA backplate was increased slightly to take into account shrinkage and to guarantee a fit.

  • This was designed in a roundabout way (SVG drawing > conversion to PNG image > vectorialization > DXF file) to deal with some limitations of the DXF files that OnShape accepts. Because of this, the pads on the tip are slightly different. Using the same STL for the three of them might work, but no guarantees there.
