Important: Requires a 0.2 mm nozzle

You need a 0.2 mm nozzle for this, otherwise the printed switch will not work. The keyboard's stock switch has very limited space around it to press-fit the model. If printed with a larger nozzle the walls become too thick, preventing the switch from moving all the way to the end to turn the keyboard on.

The accessibility problem

The stock power switch on the MX Mechanical is small, sits almost flush with the case and is hard to see or feel from the front. Toggling it often meant digging in with a fingernail which isn't practical for everyone.

The solution

I built this add-on and have been using it daily for about a year now. You can press-fit it over the stock switch.

  • Helps you locate the power switch both by sight and feel

  • Makes it easier to grip and toggle power on/off

There are two variants;

  • Small Switch: The one I prefer to use, makes the switch a bit taller so it's easier to find by hand and toggle.

  • Large Switch: It curves to the front of the keyboard so you don't have to reach to the back anymore. It's wider and has ridges on the front face for easier grip.

Print configuration

  • Nozzle: 0.2 mm (larger nozzles like 0.4 mm won't work)

  • Layer height: 0.1 mm or lower

  • Tested with multiple eSUN PLA+ filaments, all worked without any problem

The part is not forgiving on tolerances because of the limited space available around the stock switch. The current configuration is what worked best for me after multiple iterations. Feel free to experiment with settings and make adjustments to the model in the .f3d file to calibrate it for your printer and filament of choice if necessary (i.e. make the hole larger/smaller if the part shrinks more or less than mine).

Print orientation

You can print either flat or at a 45 degree angle as below, no supports required. Both have their pros and cons. I recommend to start with orientation #1 (left) and see if you're happy with the results.
