I wanted a simple hook to hang my deburring tool on, but my pegboard is https://www.printables.com/model/1105132-prusa-core-one-skadis-mod so I needed it to be able to tilt a bit without dropping the tool. I didn't find a simple model that looked like it had good retention, so I designed my own.
Originally I only posted the files for the deburring tool, but that's limited and I do all my design work in OpenSCAD anyway, so I expanded the script to the point that it's worth sharing. I included the important parameters for all exported files as a starting point for customizing for your own tools.
Deburring Tool:
I have an AFA Tooling deburring tool, which has a collar on the top that measures 9.25 mm diameter, 5 mm tall, with a lip that sticks out to 11 mm diameter above it.
To insert the tool into the holder press it into the slot, then let the lip sink down into the hole designed to hold it. To remove it lift it up and pull it out.
The slim version should hold a tool with up to a 13 mm diameter handle, while the longer mount can hold up to a 29 mm diameter handle. If you like my design but need a different size let me know and I can tweak the dimensions.
Parameters for exported models:
Key | Value |
|---|---|
shaft diameter | 9.25 |
lip diameter | 11 |
thickness | 4 |
hang inset | 3 |
back spacing | 2 / 10 |
count | 1 |
back width | 8 |
back thickness | 2 / 5 |
Screwdrivers:
I also configured it for a single medium-size screwdriver and expanded the script to support multiple slots in parallel (the count parameter) so I could hang a pair of larger screwdrivers. It still only hooks into one hole in the pegboard but the plug keeps it from twisting.
Parameters for exported models:
Key | Value |
|---|---|
shaft diameter | 4.9 / 6.6 |
lip diameter | 17.73 / 22.82 |
thickness | 5 |
hang inset | 4 |
back spacing | 5 |
count | 1 / 2 |
back width | 8 |
back thickness | 5 |
Needle Files:
I have a couple of needle files that I use frequently that I created a hanger for.
Parameters for exported models:
Key | Value |
|---|---|
shaft diameter | 5 |
lip diameter | 7.15 |
thickness | 3 |
hang inset | 2 |
back spacing | 2 |
count | 2 |
back width | 8 |
back thickness | 2 |
Plug:
To keep the entire holder from coming off the pegboard if you lift the tool too far I also designed a clip that snaps into the pegboard hole after the holder is slotted in, keeping it securely mounted with minimal footprint. I've included clips that follow the fillet edges of my white IKEA Skadis pegboard for a snug fit as well as clips that snap to un-rounded back edges, such as for a laser cut board.
The hook holds tools fine without the plug, but it's prone to lifting and rotating without the plug to brace it in place.
Instructions/Tips:
Exporting
All models should export oriented for printing and all parameter units are millimeters.
To reduce the script to a single file for simplicity I ended up sticking a bunch of my library functions directly at the bottom of the file. That block is a bit of a jumble, but it shouldn't need to be modified to tweak the tool holder parts.
The default selection is part = All, which renders the hooked part to hold your tool(s) as well as the plug to hold it in place. Set part = Hook to render just the tool holder for export.
If you're using back thickness = 2 or 5 then you can use the provided plugs, otherwise you'll need to export that as well.
The hook part prints best with hole rounding set to None, but the plug should have it (and $skadis style) set to match your pegboard for a snug fit.
Printing Instructions/Tips:
I've had good results with this printed in PLA, no supports needed. You do need good bed adhesion for the back of the hook to print as it's got a small footprint and doesn't join to the rest of the print for most of it's height.
