The keystick is printable mechanical linkage that converts 4-way key actuation (2, 4, 6, 8) into a central joystick move.

Context and motivation
This proposal is based on an old idea from Spain's Centro de Referencia Estatal de Autonomía Personal y Ayudas Técnicas (2017). There is even an older reference online, from 2010, along similar lines. Both proposals have the same objective: to allow individuals with reduced mobility or movement difficulties to play PC games. This is also the main objective of this project.
Improvements
Compared to the earlier references, this updated design introduces key functional and visual improvements, namely:
Sleeker aesthetics: redesigned geometry for a cleaner, modern look.
Increased clearance: added extra clearance underneath the mechanism to prevent unwanted key collisions and reduce drag during multi-axis tilts.
Improved ergonomics and usability: refined handle lever ratios for smoother actuation with less required force.
Design: fully parametric (OpenSCAD).
The Keysitck
This design is a non-destructive, low-cost adaptation that allows individuals with reduced mobility or movement difficulties to play PC games using standard peripherals. By providing an accessible alternative to expensive custom controllers, this inclusive hardware design promotes independence and empowers gamers with motor impairments.
There are two versions for downloading, cylindrical and teardrop keystick, they are provided for specific types of movement, this would help users choose the best print for their specific accessibility needs. Also a low-poly retro look and a more smooth sleeck version for each of them are also available.
Once the joystick is printed, it will be attached to the keys using double sided tape or Velcro (see video link at the top).
Print Parameters:
Print at 10-20% infill with 3 perimeter walls, 3-6 top/bottom layers. On modern printers should print cleanly without supports.
Testing:
I've cooked up a simple webapp for testing the keystick: https://nexp.pt/RedCircleTracker.html
Inclusive design
Accessibility is deeply personal, an included .scad source file lets you customize key spacing, stick height, base clearance, and tolerances to match your exact keyboard layout.
Help a friend and happy printing!
P.S.
I prefer the low-poly versions :)
