This is a simple floppy mount for Tektronix TDS500/TDS600/TDS700 series scopes. It supports both the Panasonic JU-226A and the TEAC FD-05HF floppy drive.

Note the main mount may not fit to units with a 4 channel or later revision aquisition board. This could only be tested on my unit (TDS520A).

This design consists of four parts:

  • Bezel (BEZEL_JU-226A or BEZEL_FD-05HF)

  • Bottom mount (MOUNT_UNIVERSAL)

  • Rear backstop support (BACKSTOP_JU-226A or BACKSTOP_FD-05HF)

  • Indicator light pipe (LIGHT_PIPE)

Note: This design is not compatable with the factory floppy bezel and the bezel listed above must be printed.

Required hardware

  • M2.6 bolt

  • M3x8 bolt

  • M3 nut

Installation

Note: Use of an anti-static wristband is recommended

  1. Press the light pipe (if used) into the 3D printed bezel from the rear

  2. Remove the front plastic bezel from the oscilloscope.

  3. Remove the metal shell from the oscilliscope

  4. Remove the existing blanking plate or floppy bezel from the oscilloscope plastic bezel, if fitted

  5. Fix the bottom mount to the hole in the bottom plate using the M3 bolt and nut

  6. Install the 3D printed floppy bezel into the main scope bezel

JU-226A

  1. Fix the FFC cable into the drive connector

  2. Slide the drive in through the back

  3. With the drive slid forward, clip on the rear backstop

  4. Slide back the drive until it hits the backstop, and fix loosely using the M2.6 bolt.
NOTE: if the hole does not line up without any pressure on the drive, ensure the backstop is properly seated. Any pressure on the rear of the drive will cause the mechanism to foul.

  5. Re-fit the front plastic bezel

  6. Adjust the position of the drive until the mechanism operates freely, and tighten the M2.6 bolt

FD-05HF

  1. Clip on the rear backstop

  2. Slide in the drive from the front until it hits the backstop

  3. Loosely fix the drive using the M2.6 bolt
NOTE: if the hole does not line up without any pressure on the drive, ensure the backstop is properly seated. Any pressure on the rear of the drive will cause the mechanism to foul.

  4. Carefully feed through and fix the ribbon cable into the drive

  5. Re-fit the front plastic bezel

  6. Adjust the position of the drive until the mechanism operates freely, and tighten the M2.6 bolt
