A lazy susan for your desk: three pen cups of different heights, a slot for scissors, a two-part tray for small things and a well in the middle for clips, on a base that turns at a touch. It runs on a ring of standard 6 mm airsoft BBs in two V-grooves, and a printed pin holds it together. Three printed parts, no supports.

  • 3 printed parts

  • 15 × 15 × 12 cm assembled (L × W × H)

  • ≈ 0.3 kg filament in total

  • 150 mm bed size needed for the base; the organizer is 110 mm tall

Parts

Base: The foot, with a V-groove race for the BBs, a low wall round the edge that hides them, the socket for the centre pin and four recesses underneath for rubber bumpers.

  • Size: 150 × 150 × 13 mm

  • Print: Flat on its bottom, no supports. 20% infill makes it a little heavier and steadier.

  • Filament: ≈ 88 g

Organizer: The part that turns: pen cups 104, 84 and 64 mm deep, a scissor slot, a two-part tray and a clip well, on a deck with the matching V-groove underneath.

  • Size: 143 × 143 × 110 mm

  • Print: Upright, deck on the bed. No supports: the groove underneath has 45° sides.

  • Filament: ≈ 203 g

Centre pin: A 12 mm pin that turns in the organizer and presses into the base, where four crush ribs grip it. Its head stops the top lifting, so the BBs stay in.

  • Size: 18 × 18 × 16 mm

  • Print: Head down, no supports.

  • Filament: ≈ 2 g

What else you need

  • 57 standard 6 mm plastic airsoft BBs, any weight (they measure about 5.95 mm). 59 fit the race; leave a gap of one or two balls so they roll freely. 6 mm steel bearing balls work too.

  • Optional: four self-adhesive rubber bumpers, 10 mm across, for the recesses under the base.

Print settings

  • 0.20 mm layer height

  • 3 walls

  • 15% gyroid infill (20% for the base)

  • PLA or PETG material

For a 0.4 mm nozzle. Filament amounts are estimates for these settings.

How to build it

  1. Print the parts: Nothing needs supports. Turn on elephant's foot compensation in your slicer, or lightly scrape the edges of the groove under the deck, so the balls roll freely.

  2. Fill the race: Lay the base flat and drop 57 BBs into the groove. They fill it all the way round with a gap of one or two balls.

  3. Set the top on: Lower the organizer straight down onto the balls so the groove under the deck settles over them, and turn it a little to let them find their place.

  4. Press in the pin: Push the centre pin through the hole in the clip well and into the socket in the base. Press it home firmly with your thumb: four small ribs in the socket squash a little and grip it.

  5. Give it a spin: The top turns freely and lifts only half a millimetre before the pin's head stops it, so the balls can't fall out. Stick the rubber bumpers under the base if you like.

  6. Taking it apart: Push the pin up from underneath with a pen through the hole in the bottom of the base, then lift the top off over a tray to catch the balls.

Airsoft BBs are small enough to swallow: keep them, and the organizer while it's apart, away from small children.
