Despite being marketed as a DIY project, I was puzzled and frustrated that the Fireweasel lacked an openly available 3D printed case or purchasable STLs to print. I am all for supporting creators, but if you are going to make a DIY project, give us the ability to DIY it!

I took the basic dimensions of Jost's remix of an existing Halehound case and redid things to fit the Fireweasel via Onshape. I will admit that I am still pretty new to Onshape, so I am sure there is room for improvement in this design. That said, I think after 7 or 8 different prints, it's ready for showtime.

This case uses M3x5x4 brass inserts. The fit of the Fireweasel itself is solid, but the mid and top plates have slightly different dimensions so there is a bit of jank here. This is the best I managed to get it with just my calipers and not re-doing the entire stack.

Print this along with the midcase and cyd-cover files from Jost's remix for the complete set.

Additionally, I've noticed that the DIY page for the Fireweasel doesn't include links/info on the individual modules necessary to put the build together. You can gather that information from photos or documents for previous Halehound builds, but for anyone potentially looking for a parts list, here is a brief one:

Notes:

  • The 5V2A charge/discharge module I used has a USB-A port on the bottom of the device that has to be de-soldered. This is not too complicated and I was able to take it off with some wick and my normal iron, but you may wish to use a USB-C only module instead. I don't have any direct links, since I was mostly focused on purchasing parts that would ship via Aliexpress Choice to the US.

  • The BOOT and RST buttons are reachable from the back of the case.

No disrespect meant to Mr. Halehound, I just wanted to be able to print my own case! Hopefully someone somewhere else in the world will find this useful or remix it for their own needs.
