A small enclosure for a DIY infrared remote (e.g. ESPHome / Home Assistant) that sits on top of a cupboard and tilts to aim at a ceiling fan or lamp. Three parts, no supports, prints in about an hour.

Fits exactly:

- Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-C6 (21 × 17.8 mm) with USB-C out the side

- M5Stack Unit IR (U002, 32 × 24 × 8 mm) with its Grove cable soldered or plugged to the XIAO

Features:

- IR emitter and receiver windows (Ø6, chamfered) in the lid, exactly above the unit's LED and receiver, so the module can both send and learn codes

- Friction hinge: the housing sits between two cheeks on the base plate and tilts 0–90° continuously. Set the angle by hand, two M3 screws set the friction

- Ribs hold both boards without glue, 0.3 mm clearance; a fin on the lid keeps the XIAO down

- Lid hooks into a groove at the front and is held by two countersunk screws at the back

- Room for the cable loop inside; USB-C opening 11 × 5.5 mm

- Optional Ø4.5 holes in the base for screws, or just use adhesive pads

Hardware: 2 × M3×8 socket head (hinge), 2 × M3×10 countersunk (lid; M3×6 works too). All screws self-tap into 2.5/2.6 mm holes, no nuts needed.

Printing: 0.2 mm layers, 2 walls, 15 % infill, PLA. All parts are in print orientation: housing open side up, lid outer face down (fin and hook up), base cheeks up. Estimate on a Creality K1C: 58 min, 26 g.

Assembly: Put the IR unit flat in the left pocket, label side down, Grove socket towards the hinge. Put the XIAO in the right front pocket, USB-C in the side opening. Hook the lid into the front groove, lower it and fix the two rear screws. Set the housing between the base cheeks and fasten with the two M3×8 screws, just tight enough that it holds its angle. Place the base with the hinge side towards the lamp and tilt the front up until the lid faces the IR receiver.
