I needed a very low profile diffuser for the Daylight on Matchstick LED pcb, so I made this design in a morning.
Print settings
- filament: PETG white or clear
- layer height: 0.15 for translucency
Post Processing
Initial design has a bridge covering the screw holes. I took a quick drill to clean the holes up. Will likely redesign this if/when I need to print another set.
Other Notes
Regarding the heat from the covered LEDs…I am not concerned about it.
The lack of heat dissipation through circulating air may decrease the lifespan of the LEDs.
Use at your own risk.
Updates
- 2023/1/18 - One of the covers printed in PETG is deforming slightly in the middle, a slight bulge away from the pcb. I attribute the deformation to the heat. I have been using 40% power to keep the LEDs a bit less blinding and I also have been printing at 100degree bed temperature with the printer enclosed. The covers are still totally functional. Your milage may vary.
- 2023/2/19 - MapleLeafMakers have released a really well thought out diffuser (Matchstick Diffusers). By default it isn't able to fit on a v0 print bed, but totally worth checking out if interested in a less minimal solution. The model even has files for snap mounts to point down at the bed, super rad!
