Description
This parametric battery holder was designed to hold rechargeable batteries, but could easily hold normal batteries as well. A few sample STLs are included for AA, AAA and 18650 batteries with varying numbers of battery pockets. The holder has a bottom to each battery pocket so that the entire holder (with batteries) can be lifted out of a drawer, if needed.
The battery holder script was designed using CadQuery, which is a Python module for creating CAD models. The original source code file is included and has a few parameters that are of interest.
Samples were printed on a Prusa i3 Mk2 with a 0.4mm nozzle.
Print Settings
- Layer Height: 0.2
- Brim: Yes
- Supports: No
- Material: PETG (PLA or others should work, just watch out for shrinkage)
Parameters
battery_diameter - Battery sizes AA, AAA, C, D and 18650 are included. Un-comment the size of battery you want to use its value as the diameter. Others can be added simply by measuring the diameter of the battery and adding it. Printing a 1x1 sample to test how the battery fits is usually a good idea.
number_of_rows - The number of rows of battery pockets. The value can be as low as 1 and as high as you want.
number_of_columns - The number of columns of battery pockets. The value can be as low as 1 and as high as you want.
box_thickness - The default thickness is 10mm to make the holders quick to print, but still be stable when used in a drawer. This thickness can be increased or decreased depending on your needs.
Customization
This model can be customized by opening the script in CQ-editor, the widely-used IDE for CadQuery. Change the parameters explained above and execute the script. You can un-comment the export line towards the bottom of the script to export your customized holder to STL.
Alternatives
This model is focused on allowing the user to set the number of battery pockets in a grid, and is not part of any organizational system. There is a similar CadQuery-based battery holder that will work with the Gridfinity system here if that fits your needs better.
