This is a collection of models to be used as clearings for M3, M4 and M5 nuts.
Using these clearing models by subtracting from your solid is quite convenient for designs of objects to be assembled by screws.
The clearing models are optimized for the following aspects:
- nut fixation
- The nuts can be pressed in and will not fall out again. This makes it easier to assemble
- printing without support
- The clearings are designed in a way to always allow printing without support even if printed upside down.
This is achieved by adding a rectangular support layer helping the slicer to create gcode for better bridging. So, normally there is no support necessary anymore - even if you print the hole upside down.
- The clearings are designed in a way to always allow printing without support even if printed upside down.
The templates have originally been created in FreeCAD. You can just copy the model into your design file and then subtract in the Part Workbench. For other CAD tools I have exported the templates in several other formats:
- *.FCStd
- *.stl
- *.iges
- *.step
Hints:
- If you place your 2 parts together the way they will be assembled before you subtract the clearing, you can for both parts create the hole and the nut hole with one clearing template (see also picture).
- The collection models are optimized for 0.4 nozzle and 0.2 or 0.3mm layer. Nozzles of other size may need adaptions of the models.
- Printers and filaments may differ slightly in their behavior. In case the hole dimensions of your printer may not fit to my templates, you may have to slightly scale the templates to your printer or filament.
Have fun!
