I designed this adapter ring to recycle an empty Geeetech filament spool to accept MasterSpool refill coils.

I don't know if all Geeetech spools are the same. The core of mine had a diameter of 80mm.

The adapter has an outer diameter of 102mm and a width of 46mm. The screw holes are 2.9mm in diameter.

Hardware needed:

  • 1 x printed adapter ring
  • 6 x screws M3 x 10mm+

Tools needed:

  • A small hand saw
  • A 4mm drill bit
  • A screwdriver matching the screws
  • Optional: An M3 x 0.5 tap
  • Optional: CA glue

Note: The Fusion 360 source file is included, so you can modify it to fit your needs.

Post-Printing

Step 1

Saw the spool in half and measure the diameter of the core. It should be ~80mm.

Step 2

Print the drill template and double check that it fits your spool.

Step 3

If it does, print the actual adapter (3 perimeters for 0.4mm nozzles, 10% infill is enough). While it prints …

Step 4

… use the drill template and drill the holes in both halves of the Geeetech spool.

Step 5

Screw the adapter ring to one half. Place the other half in the adapter and mark how much you have to shorten the old core. Trimm off the excess.

Optional steps:

  • Tap the holes.
  • Add CA glue to one side.

Step 6

Done. :)
