Brandon made a really nice tweak that made this fit better, but I really liked the filament notch from the original design here.

This modified version just takes Brandon's version and adds that notch so that it's easier to use with Polymaker spools. This makes it so that the tail isn't in the way of the spool's notch and everything can fit together nicely.

Pasting Brandon's original instructions here with my new step:

  1. Tape end of filament to prevent unwinding.  Some find it helpful to fully wrap tape around filament to contain the entire spool.  Painters tape works well because it does not leave a residue.
  2. Remove cardboard spool end (filament tail side first, look/feel inside tube to see which side has the tail) by working your way around the circumference and slowly prying it off.
  3. Clean up glue and left over cardboard after side is removed.  Be careful not to disturb the freshly wounded spool.  I use a sharp knife to deburr the edge if you will.
  4. Insert tapered side of adapter (notch side up) into the cardboard spool and press in until flush.
  5. Move filament tail to the filament notch of the adapter. Trim filament tail flush with roll.
  6. Place tab side of Bambu into adapter and ensure to align the tab with the notch in the adapter.
  7. Turn spool over and repeat the process
  8. When placing the final side of the Bambu spool, do not forget to twist and make sure it locks into place.
  9. Enjoy your freshly converted cardboard to Bambu spool of filament.
