Wooden train tracks like Brio can be even more fun when the options for tracks expands. Go two or even three layers of trains coming from any angle over the other with these 360 Tunnel and Train Track Riser.
- Trains go through
- Trains can go over the top
- Top track spins 360 freely to allow any direction of track over the top
- Curved sides are strong, stylish and allow ramp down or up without interference from any location
This is my second (and second and a half) version, designed in OnShape. This is was my first, designed in Sketchup: https://www.printables.com/model/185975-honeycomb-stackable-brio-track-riser
UPDATE: I was unhappy that the print in place version had a single weakness (the male end of the track could break off relatively easily - and it did often during play). So I ended up making a 3 part version with a screw to connect the track to the tunnel and allow the track to swivel 360. I still recommend printing the tunnel on it's side by selecting the noted face to sit on the bed. You will still want to paint on the supports as shown in the print in place version. The multi-part version has also been slightly changed to allow for the top surface to be printed on the bed (upside down). However, this will place the layer lines horizontal and thus reduce strength. It's worth the 3g of filament to me for the added strength. The screw uses a 4mm hex head wrench which you certainly have a dozen of. And hey, you can mix and match colors.
I recommend the multi-part version and don't plan to personally print more of the print in place.
Both versions, with 3 perimeters, 20% infill, it's about 75g but keep in mind that the honeycomb area is basically solid. If you go with the print in place version, the tunnels are quite strong but the male track end can snap off due to the layer orientation.
On the print in place version, you will also find that once printed, you will need to twist the track piece to break some small internal supports.
