This project is for the 2.8" ili9341 TFT LCD and Touchscreen.

The ESPHome code for this project, which is a clock showing inside and outside temperatures where all data comes from Home Assistant, can be found here https://github.com/kdorff/esphome/tree/main/tft-office

  • The primary ESPHome project code tft-office.yaml
  • Data, initialization, and display update code tft-room-time-temp.h
  • My library, esphome-display-panel, provides a class DisplayPanel class to simplify UI layout and touch detection.

The Base model offers 17mm of space under the LCDs PCB.

A second version of the model provides bottom power.

The case uses countersunk m3 screws to affix the lid to the case, instead of glue or tape. Lid and Base to attach using four m3 screws (12mm is about perfect).

This design requires m3 heat inserts in the Base. It uses these m3 heat inserts.

I used Polyimide Adhesive Tape (kapton-like) to insulate the ili9341 PCB from the microcontroller.

I used the ESP32 30-pin and the ESP32 D1 Mini with good success

Post-Printing =============

Add the heat inserts to the Base. Remove the pin header from the ili9341. Solder. Assemble.

I used a zip tie for strain relief.
