Swatchinator 2000

The Swatchinator 2000 is a remix/redesign of idea's from several different switches out there, primarily the ones from @Blauwkeut & @matez's customized filament swatch.  

The main difference is that I liked the size of Matez used but I didn't want to have to go in and change the physical swatch model every time I changed filament, and I wanted to be able to easily see from across the room what type, brand and color of filament I have in each dry box, as I store my filament across the room on a high shelf and it makes life .001% easier.  I also liked the idea of including a QR code so that I can just scan and order filament and not have to worry about whether it will match existing prints closely enough.  

This design is part of a larger project where I used the standalone dry box from the Prusa Lack enclosure v2 with a modified bottom piece that has a matching cleat so that the dryboxes easily snap in and stay in place should you need to lift the top to access your printer.

I previously remixed the cleat to extend the front edge down and added a holder for this size and shape of swatch.  This probably qualifies as ‘ridiculously over engineered’ as I have been learning self-cad and planned this out in 2D in Touchdraw2 first so that all I had to worry about in SelfCAD was how to make each element to plan instead of trying to learn the tool and plan it out on the fly.  

The space left for the label is based on the Niimbot 12x40mm size, as I have a D101 Niimbot label maker, and the software allows for easy QR code generation as a design element.  I made a template for this and saved in the software so that I can generate 2 labels quickly and easily whenever I get a new make, model or color of filament.  I put one on the box itself when I shelve it, and one on the filament swatch as this will be my first print when I start to use it.  I did verify that you can insert the swatch when the dry box is in place, and that all elements are readable when it's in place (see photos for details.)

The main design elements are transparency, Stringing, bridging, wall thickness, overhangs, gaps, holes and slope.  I also included a spot that fits a 25mm filament sample along the bottom left edge.  There are holes and elements to verify dimensional accuracy, although some of them are pretty tiny at this scale.

Printed version (pictured) is with a .4mm nozzle at .2mm quality setting.  If you wanted to use a .6mm nozzle, I would scale it up.

I'm including the SelfCAD file to make it easier to adjust or customize for your needs.  You should be able to open and do anything you need with their free online tools.

Edit: Quick note on the 2 versions in the selfCAD files attached. You will find two versions, one for a round socket head cap and one for a hexagon head.  The Hex head is not the right size and I didn't have one handy to fix, so in frustration I changed it to a socket head so I could get these printed and in use.  At some point I will go back and fix the other one, but it was driving me nuts so meh.  (I am no engineer or CAD wizard, SelfCAD feels more like Visio or Touchdraw, which used to be my jam for network diagrams so I like it.  I like it better than TinkerCad or SketchUp, even though it's not as popular as either one.
