Back when my family was super into Pokémon Go, we just had to have the game represented on our holiday tree. I made this PokeStop Ornament in OpenSCAD and printed it in ColorFabb PLA/PHA (Sky Blue). This ornament won't deliver potions or Pokeballs, but it will spin just like the real thing!
I print this flat on the bed with no supports and no brim.
There are a few files to chose from:
PokeStopOrnament-0.75clearenceALL.stl - My original ornament, but you can see visible faces in the Cylinder.
PokeStopIncreasedNumberOfFaces.stl - Smoother version with increased faces on the cylinders.
PokeStopOrnamentWithComments.scad - If you are interested in the original OpenSCAD code and/or adjusting clearances, this is the code I used to generate the models.
Notes:
There are small, 1mm thick placeholders outside of the moving pieces to help keep them in place. You may want to slow your first layer down slower than usual to help out those small details.
If you see those little 1mm placeholders fusing into the circles on the first layer, you don't necessarily have to abort the print. Watch it a little bit. If subsequent layers have a gap, then it is typically easy to free the pieces with even just a fingernail when the print is done.
How I Designed This
OpenSCAD
This ornament was designed in OpenSCAD. The design takes advantage of bridging. There is a little axis going through the center of the ornament. The axis is a simple 8-sided cylinder which is rotated to encourage bridging and to make sure we are using 45% overhangs.
All my clearances are 0.75mm. This was to allow for a super easy spin and to help prevent fusing on the first layers.
