This was made in 2021 as a first try on parameterized modelling in FreeCad (I am ready to publish the model as well if requested)
It tells you the time in German using a 12 hour scale and is fitted with filler words as “etwa” and “fast” to be able to show a different display for every minute.
The model fits my PrusaMK3 print bed and should be printed either in a light color or - preferably - two layers white and from the 3rd layer on in black PLA. I included a picture of an aborted print which shows the two color effect quite good. The general idea is that the unlit letters appear invisible until the LED is lit. The bigger volume behind the letters supports a better, more even light distribution.
I included a smaller model to test the multicolor printing.
A manual color change can be scheduled with PrusaSlicer by a single mouse click. I assume other slicers offer this option as well.
The case is modeled to fit a wmos-D1-Mini and 17 mm NeoPixel stripes. Be aware of the power consumption of your LEDs, you need several Amps to lit it completely. I included a light sensor to dim the display at night.
The pictures are taking during code development and do not show the normal brightness. It is much much brighter with fully powered LEDs.
Have fun.
