If you want to print smooth surfaces but have to use supports for your model then there is a simple trick to do so. Just use PETG as a support interface in case you got an automated multi material handler. In my case I use an BambuLab X1C with a AMS.
I uploaded a model with the defined profile. Just give it a try.
I made a small simple test object with multiple overhangs. Just check out the pictures above or give it a try yourself!
The reference video for this is in German. I found it on Youtube a few weeks back but no one published settings here yet. Credits go to Manbo! Go check out his videos!
Here are a few examples I made use of this:
First a really complicated Model for FDM printing but worked out super nice!

Here a other example of another part of a figure model.
First the top of the model:
And here the bottom with removed supports:
Supports are super easy to remove. No struggle at all!
The results looked awesome. The friend I printed these models for was super happy with the result.
It's defenitly time consuming but it pays out!
This isn't only working for PLA prints with PETG as support interface. The other way round is working as well. Printing in PETG and using PLA as the support interface material.
