Not your vanilla pill dispenser, but one with 7x3 compartments, one extra compartment and a very satisfying snap.

The idea

After I've seen the ‘Week Pill Case’ (printables/104287-week-pill-case) I decided to design my own version of it. I needed one with three compartments per day, and an extra compartment for some headache pills would be nice. I ‘stole’ the idea of the magnets, though…

Printing

Just print the lid and case normally. For the screw, I discovered it's best to place it on its back, and rescale the X and Y to 98% or 99%, leaving Z at 100%. Otherwise it will not fit (or it will be a one-time screw-in :-) )

Magnets

Place 8 cylinder magnets of 3x3mm in the holes in the case. I didn't have to glue them in, but maybe yours need a drop. Be careful to have them all magnetically aligned the same way! The easiest way to do this is to have the magnets as a stack, and just push one in each hole. You can also place  and fix one magnet in a hole, temporarely stick a second one on top, and without rotating it, push that one in the next hole. For the lid, start with two magnets on opposite sides, and check if the ‘snap’ is satisfying enough. I ended up with 4 magnets in the lid. Finally, use a M3x24mm screw and a nyloc nut to hold the lid in place.

Materials

  • 8 cylinder magnets 3x3mm for the case
  • 2 or 4 or more of the same 3x3mm magnets for the lid
  • A M3x24mm screw
  • A M3 nyloc nut
