Fully parametric cable, filament, hose grommet kinda thing for passing stuff through an enclosure, desk, worktop, or whatever.

Adjust to your needs using Fusion 360 (which is free to makers!)

>> Open f3d file >> Modify >> Change parameters

descriptions are all in there … play around if unsure, sure you'll figure it out soon enough

(it may be possible to convert and adjust parameters using other software - let me know in comments if so)

I made this for getting stuff into and out of my printer enclosure, and rather than designing several similar objects, I decided to make just one design that was parametric so it could be adjusted to do them all.

Examples how I use it:

  • Skinny and long (no cap) - as a filament guide from spool holder (sits on top of the enclosure), this passes through the enclosure and in to the extuder
    • so grommet goes through enclosure, bowden tube goes through that, filament then passes through both
  • Larger sized (with optional cap) - to pass a stepper motor (and power) cables in a printer enclosure
  • Even bigger sizes (with or without cap) - in desks and the bench in my shed to pass power and other cables though

To make your own:

  • measure / amend / model your required tube thingy in fusion
    • parameters for diameter, thickness, length, top lip … + more
    • side ribs help provide a more secure fit - size accordingly, so:
      • wider / deeper for inserting into softer materials or less precise holes
      • thinner/shallower for harder materials with precisely cut holes
    • cap - angle of cutout can be amended
  • export stl and print
  • drill a hole in whatever  your are pushing this through (approx hole cut size suggested in parameter screen)
  • push your Tube Thingy in to place
  • pass cables of whatever through that you decided you needed this for

Included are some example stl files … you could use these as is, the real concept though is really for you to change the parameters and model to your own requirements.

NOTE: if printing example stl files in Prusa slicer, split stl files in to objects (use button on menu) arrange on print bed and print separately

Other uses and ideas: pass things through the sides of an enclosure, desks, worktops, walls(?), glass, perspex, other plastics … whatever you need … this is a multi-purpose Tube Thingy concept which allows you to tweak the dimensions and use however you want.

Curious to see how else it might get used … post a make or comment if you think of other good uses - not sure really feeding the cat or watering plants are an option but never say never.

Feel free to donate via Paypal if you appreciate this and would like to help feed my filament  needs :)
