With the October 14, 2023 solar eclipse just around the corner, I was looking for solar eclipse binocular filter lenses. Prices were a bit much for just a single lens. I then came across Solar Filter Sheets that can be used to make your own.
So I made a filter sheet lens holder to fit the binoculars I already had.
Simple steps to make your own:
- Use the OpenSCAD model to custom fit this to your binoculars.
- Cut a circle out of some Solar Filter Sheet material to fit inside the lens holder
- Place the solar filter into holder,
- Secure the lens snap ring into place by pressing it all the way into the lens holder
