This is my evolution of Pete Prodoehl's Solder Board, which is a parameterised model for securely holding header pins for different-sized microcontroller boards during soldering. I've modified the idea to integrate with my own custom soldering station, but it'll mount to anything with an M3 screw. Its small rectangular size also lends itself well to being held by even a small vise clamp, for a less permanent work platform.
Solder Board v2 includes a set of 6x10 holes for 0.1"-pitch header pins, and the intention is for larger boards to overhang the sides - 6 holes in a row seems to be enough to securely hold a much larger row of pins, without taking the time required to print an object with holes for the entire length of a board. The holes are 1.35mm in diameter in the model, which I've found to be the perfect balance of tight enough to hold while soldering but loose enough that it's easy to remove a finished board.
The shroud around the mounting hole is 2.5mm tall, and acts as a shelf for supporting one side of a breakout board that only needs one row of pins, including boards with components on both sides - no more wonky breakouts with this tool!
I'm currently thinking about how to add meaningful support for soldering 90-degree headers to boards with this, and will upload a solution once I find one. I'm also happy to take on suggestions or requests for small modifications to this that would make it more useful to you.
