Inspiration

I wanted to create something unique for Halloween, being tired of the same old ghosts/pumpkins/skeletons frequently posted on social media that I didn't like the look of (no offence intended).

I turned to the classic arcade game Altered Beast by SEGA for inspiration. I had already built one of the bosses using LEGO, and this year I took on the challenge of creating a 3D-printable model of another boss - in low-poly form.

This low-poly version of the Crocodile Worm boss was designed in Blender from scratch, and it took a few attempts as I'm not very good at modelling.

It's not the scariest or most Halloween thing you could print, but it makes a nice decorative piece outside of the season!

Versions

I've included two versions of the model for your enjoyment:

  • a solid version for printing in a single material/colour, which can also be painted;
  • a multicolour version for printing in two colours (untested as I don't have a multi-material printer).

I've printed this model with solid and gradient filaments, but I think it would work very well with multicolour or translucent filament. How about a glow-in-the-dark filament for the belly? 👍

I would recommend tree supports, if you're unsure whether your printer can handle the overhangs.

I also want to see your makes, especially if you try the multicolour version. Let me know how it turns out for you by posting your makes!
