Replacement step for an "iTouchless 16 Gallon Kitchen Dual Step Trash Can".

The reviews of this product mention the steps breaking eventually. I ignored it and still got one… eventually it broke. Contacted the company and got no response for a replacement.

So, here it is, a replacement step. It can be printed in regular PLA (Black to match the original).  The original pedal has a metal “cover” that can be removed by unbending the tabs underneath it. Save it to reinstall it in the printed part.

This model's orientation is correct for the shear force the studs experience, but you'll need to reinforce these studs that go into the trashcan with a couple of M5x45 (up to M5x70 maybe) bolt inside each (see pictures). Get at least 4 bolts, because if you broke 1 step, you'll likely break the other one, so better be prepared. I used one of these long 3mm allen wrenches (hex key) with handle to do it more easily.

I added some chamfer around where the studs connect, but they still clear the metal cover.
I recommend that you print supports around the studs, so that they're more or less round and to increase adhesion in this area. Mine separated and it's less round on one of the studs because I didn't use supports.

Instructions

  1. Print the model with flat side down

  2. Print with supports around the studs, 6 or more perimeters and 20% infill

  3. When the print is done, install the M5 bolts in each socket, all the way in.

  4. Remove the metal cover from your broken step by unbending the tabs underneath it.

  5. Install the cover by using the slots for the tabs in your new step.

  6. Bend the tabs under the new step

  7. Install the step in to your trash can.
