Does your cat like resting his adorable fuzzy head on your keyboard?
Do you want to actually, like, use your keyboard?
Maybe this general design is for you!
You probably don't want to print this, because it's both specifically customized for me and not great. But you could use it for inspiration! Full Fusion source files provided. Here's some notes on what I would change if I were making a second one (which, right now, I'm not.)
---
- This particular design is specifically designed for a Das Keyboard 4 with a Bluetooth dongle in the rightmost port. It will probably not match your keyboard's dimensions.
- The cable guide has this nice-looking circular top. This is a bad idea because it requires support material, and it's a big print, it's easy for support material to get bumped. I recommend changing it to a 45-degree angle, making a sort of tall pentagon shape.
- The carveout for the top-right USB area should not have a flat top. It, similarly, requires support material, but that support material has to rest on the base, which is not stable at all. This was actually a big problem when printing! I recommend chamfering it at a 45 degree angle to avoid as much support material as possible.
- The right volume knob cutout should extend much higher.
- It's designed to be printed in two parts and then glued together. I built this sort of nice smooth interface to make it easy to align! Doesn't work well - it was the first gluing interface I ever designed and it sorta sucks. I recommend switching it to something like the diamond alignment pins I used in the Shell Tiara.
- I chopped it into two pieces so it would (barely) fit on the print bed of a Prusa MK3S+. This actually became a problem because then the support material tried to go over the limit. You should probably chop it into three pieces unless you have a smaller keyboard or a larger printer. This will probably be necessary if you're using longer alignment pins.
- Don't drop it on the ground while gluing it, not that you need to be told that, ha ha, only a dumbass would do that.
Once you've got it printed and glued up, go buy a pack of those adhesive carpet squares from Amazon, then put them on to give your kitty a nice comfortable surface to lounge upon.
