My Apple MacBook Pro is great and is more powerful than my desktop.  So I now have it hooked up to a docking station and use it with all my monitors.  But I wanted to stand the MacBook on its side to save some desk space.  I went to Apple's website to see what is available and found only one, AND IT SELLS FOR $60!  Of course, I am always designing stuff for around the house and figured that I'll just design one.  About four hours later I had my first test print.  (Isn't great to have a 3D printer?)

The test print was fine and since I had all the measurements correct, I went back into Fusion 360 and cleaned it up a bit and added a small Apple Logo just for fun.  I wanted something that printed in place, and did not need supports.

I was concerned about the cooling in the MacBook Pro when designing it, but I figured if Apple sells one it should be fine.   The MacBook has vents to allow for cooling that should not be blocked, so this has supports that raise the MacBook Pro up a little so no airflow is blocked.

The laptop does get warm when doing large renders for animation, so I printed mine in PETG.  PLA is fine, but I had some PETG that looked pretty nice for this.  Besides, I use my desktop to do renders that take many days since I don't want to tie up my laptop for that long.

The first three images are renders done in Cinema 4D with the Redshift renderer.  The last picture is of an actual print.

Using The Stand

It's simple, just place the MacBook Pro into the stand.  Make sure the Apple logo on the laptop is right side up, and the logo on the laptop is on the same side as the Apple logo on the print.  (Please look at the last photo of the actual print.)  This will ensure that the vents are not blocked and that the laptop is securely held in place.

Printing

No supports are needed, and the print is oriented for printing.  I printed mine with a 0.2 layer hight with a 0.4mm nozzle.  Six parameters and and infill of 25%.  I'm sure that the standard settings are strong enough, but I wanted to use up the last of this filament.  PLA, PETG, ABS/ASA, and any non-flexible material will work.  I would probably avoid glass filled filament since it may scratch the case.  I can actually feel the glass on high quality glass filled filament!

I included two sets of files.  One that is all one part, and the second includes the logo as separate parts if you wanted to use your MMU or AMS to print the logo in a different color.

Good luck!

I designed this for myself, but I figured that others may find it useful to print.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve this print.  And of course good luck with all Your 3D printing!
