Overview

I was not happy with the existing solutions for MMCX adapters, so I made my own. This one uses a pcb mount mmcx connector. This model was also made with SLA or SLS printing in mind. I specifically had these printed in SLS Nylon so that they could be dyed at a later stage.

You will need - these style of pcb mount mmcx connectors:

https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dm8ikYD I recommend getting them from Aliexpress as it seems they are a specialty item in the US and I can not find them for anything near as cheap as these

You will also need - 2 core enameled wire similar to this here:

https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DkwONEZ again I recommend Aliexpress for this item for the same reasons above

I suggest using UV glue for the assembly as it is the easiest to work with here.

I use this glue here. The flex version has the right amount of flex to it to be indestructibl in applications like this: https://amzn.to/4agdz5V

Instructions

  1. Cut about a half inch of enameled wire.
  2. Attach the mmcx connector to your mmcx headphone cable to prevent the inner pin from shifting while soldering your wires.
  3. The inner pin is your signal and the two outer pins are the ground pins. solder the red wire to the signal and the clear to one of the ground. I would recommend using flux here to ensure proper connection. If you've never worked with enameled wire before, You have to burn the enamel off before you can solder it.
  4. You can unplug from the cable now.
  5. Insert the connector into the adapter piece from the front and make sure it is seated all the way.
  6. Use uv glue to glue the connector in place. the ridges are designed to hold excess glue to ensure stable attachment. cover the leads with a bit of glue as well to prevent any strain or shorts.
  7. On the Koss driver, there are two connection pads underneath the original plastic piece. One is marked with red marker. This is your signal connection.
  8. Position the adapter upside down and off the bottom of the driver. Solder the wires to the pads.
  9. Then you can twist the adapter to be right side up and flip it to its proper position. it important to have just the right amount of wire here.
  10. Push the adapter pegs into place and hold the adapter tight to the driver as you place small drops of UV glue over the section where the pegs insert and on the front of the adapter to hold it on the driver more securely.
