The Dornier Do X was a remarkable aircraft of its time, a massive flying boat designed by German engineer Claude Dornier. Introduced in the 1920s, it stood out with its colossal size and impressive wingspan. Capable of carrying a substantial number of passengers, the Do X marked a significant achievement in aviation history. Despite facing challenges and limitations, its pioneering design paved the way for future advancements in long-range air travel.

Note that there is a simpler version of this model too. This model is quite complicated and needs more assembly than other kit cards. You can find it here.

Printing Info

There are two versions of this model, one with and one without a sprue. You can also print the individual parts seperate. Since there are many parts the sprue is quite big, but it fits the standard Ender 3 size bed nicely. Since this model was quite difficult to design I'd love to see your makes. Happy printing and building!

Building Info

Since this is a little bit more complicated model, there are some notes for building it:

It might be helpful to have small sidecutters, pliers and superglue by hand.

The tolerances are so that I could push everything in place by hand. If something doesn't fit for you, carefully cuttig some edges or the use of small pliers might help. If something is too loose, a little bit of glue should help.

  • 1. Push the engines into the spacer. Make shure they are all aligned.
  • 2. Push the engines and the mini wings into the wing. I suggest laying it on a flat surface and carefully pressing them all in evenly. If inserted correctly, the engins should face down slightly as seen in pic. 4.
  • 3. Press on the props. If some don't fit on, it might help to rotate them by 90°.
  • 4. Recheck that the engines are correctly oriented.

  • 5. Push the swimmer in place.
  • 6. Insert the three W-shaped struts. Make shure to put them in in the right order. The middle part has a different length for all three, the longest one goes in front and the shortest in the back. When pushed in you can push the parts that go into the swimmer too.
  • 7. Press the mini wings into the big elevators.
  • 8. Press the smaller vertical stabilizers into the elevators in from the other side.

  • 9. Push the smaller elevators into the fuselage
  • 10. Add the built bigger elevators to the fuselage too.
  • 11. Push the smaller struts into the fuselage. Again there are different lenghts, the longer one goes at the front. Push them into the holes of the bigger elevators and through the smaller elevators as seen in the picture.
  • 12. Add the main wing to the fuselage. Push the struts to the side at first. When the wing is fully inserted put the struts in place one by one.
