Two parts of a spool I modeled to fit Microcenter's spool-less filament refills, connecting by threading together.

I frequently get my filament from a Microcenter, and they sell spool-less filament for a little cheaper. I wanted to print a spool for the roll of cardboard cylinders to fit on, but the ones I found were too big. After taking inspiration from other printable spools, I modeled one with an older wheel-like look on the shell to save material.

I printed this using PLA, and I haven't had issues with threading on this revision. Since the two parts need to be threaded, I do not recommend supports as there are a lot of threads, and consistent geometry is better than rocky threads in my opinion, or I might be just lazy lol.

I used a 0.1mm layer height at 0.4 nozzle, you don't need a small layer height like mine. I had to model the threads only 5 times to get mine threaded nicely and consistently. I recommend tuning 60-degree overhangs just in case you use some seriously droopy filament.
