Apple M0110 M0110A USB conversion cradle

This is a convenient piece for making a clean conversion of Apple's m0110 and m0110a keyboards (and, by extent, any other keyboards supporting the Macintosh Security Lock) to USB type C.

I suspect that you've come to this post, knowing about the brilliant project of Hasu, and many other's: TMK. If you haven't checked it yet, I encourage you to do so.


The cradle is designed with this type-C to type-A adapter in mind (This exact item can be bought from many other vendors. The link is for reference only). 

You need to remove the aluminium body (hacksaw / tough snippers), and cut-off the rubber around the type-c port. The metal outer shell of the type-A port should also be removed (pliers / flat screwdriver). The now-uncovered pads of type-A port are easy to solder the wires onto.

In addition, with this cradle you should use a standard microswitch. Two pins are GND and RST of your board, and the third one takes a blob of solder, to hold the switch in place. By some lucky coincidence, the security port fits the switch like a glove. Do not forget to put the wires through the cradle before soldering =)


Now, once both the adapter and the microswitch are connected to the cradle, you'll have to cut the bottom plastic notch of the Macintosh Security Lock slot flush, leaving the upper latches intact. Once done, press the cradle and the microswitch into the slot. There should be two satisfying clicks once the cradle is in place, held by the upper latches.

Finally, refer to TMK's Github page to wire-in the microcontroller and flash the software. Enjoy!
