NASPI V1

This was inpired by https://www.printables.com/model/129798-raspberry-pi-4-nas-with-2x-35-bays by @impulse1delta_176390 (My thansk to him)

However I think that disk drives produce a lot of heat that can impact on Raspberry PI performance and so I wanted to separate the disks from the raspberry pi.

This is my first attempt at 3d printing and designing stuff so dont blame me if its not the best. I've made this for myself but I thought It also might be useful to others.

This is basically a box with 2 parts, on the left it takes a power supply and the raspberry pi on top of a base, the box has the cuts for the raspberry pi. Howver you still need to make the holes in the base to fix the pi and the power supply to it.

The right part takes 2 hard drives and fits on a small edge to prevent it from leaving its place.

Additional to the 3d prints this took:

  1. Mean Well RD-65A power supply (provides 5V for the pi and 12V for the hard drives
  2. Raspberry pi 5 with 8Gb Vram
  3. Some active cooling for the Raspberry pi, ex:

  4. 2 3.5in Sata Hard Drives (I used toshiba NAS S300 4T)
  5. 2 USB to SATA adapters that take 12v input by jack:
    https://www.amazon.es/dp/B01LYR49I8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
  6. 2x DC Jacks 1.4mm Inner, 3.4mm outer diameters
  7. A fuse box
    https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0C2VG9J5Q?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
  8. A Fuse like this: https://secure.reichelt.com/de/en/fuse-5x20mm-1-25a-slow-blow-218-litt-02181-25mxp-p241980.html?&trstct=pos_0&nbc=1
  9. A on/off switch
  10. A connector for power cable

Connections should be done by like this:

Notes:

Raspberry Pi 5 needs 5.1V and if it drops below 4.85V it will shut down. You have to use a multimeter to measure the 5V and make a stress test on the Raspberry Pi and adjust the voltage to be at 5.1V when stressed. Then you should be fine.
