This should work with any vehicle that has adaptive cruise control but still requires your hand to be on the steering wheel (Not a Tessla, they figured a way around it :)).
The common problem is that you will still get a warning to put your hand on the steering wheel even if you are holding it because it's not detecting enough resistance from your hand. Hence, you have to jerk the wheel every minute which is inconvenient. Adding the weight will eliminate this issue and it will also allow for hands-free cruising (at your own risk ).
I couldn't find any practical design that fit my car and work so I designed my own with inspiration from what's available.
Design:
you will need at least 150g of weight to fill the main part with (that is what worked with my Toyota Land Cruise), use whatever you have to reach this from nuts, rods, or actual small weights. Then fill any remaining gap with anything to stop it from rocking around like foam, sand, or even tissues.
I used ~300mm of 10mm stainless steel rods found here, cut into 5 pieces. But that's one of many options.
belt can be installed in a vertical or horizontal orientation for whatever fits your car.
Explore with placement to whatever works with your car and driving style. Photos show how I placed it.
Print instructions:
0.4 Nozzle
0.20 mm
No support
No Brim
30%+ infill
2 perimeters at least.
Main Part:
I recommend printing the whole thing with TPU. softer on the steering wheel and easy to mount but I've also tried it with PLA/PETG and it works fine:
Lid:
The lid has a tight fit on the main part and will require some force to snap it in (would still recommend using glue) you don't want this to open up while you are driving and steering.
Belt (optional):
you can print one of the belts included with TPU or use your own as I made large holes in the main part that should fit most straps for watches, Velcro, nylon, and zip-ties (if you are that desperate).
