So my problem was that BMG clones didn't grip the heatsink hard enough and the whole thing sways side to side with the slightest touch to blobs or overextrusions and I wanted to stop that, so I designed this to be super rigid and it has held up to (a lot of) abuse very well.
5000 mm/s^2 X Acceleration, 200 mm/s Speed, 20 mm/s3 Jerk, 28 mm3/s flow rate with CHT clone nozzle.
The heatsink fan being blocked doesn't seem to affect anything other than slightly slower heatsink cool-down speed after print finishes. Probe has not been adjusted in two months and has maintained z offset thanks to the rigid mount. The 4020 fan is used as a structural component, but 4010 fan will likely work fine as well. Only 2 bolts are really needed but 4 is recommended for rigidity.
Main body only consists of 3 parts;
- The shim, which goes right on the aftermarket plate.
- The Motor mount, which mounts the motor and BMG extruder to the plate
- The Fan mount, which mounts the hotend and parts cooling fan(s)
How to assemble (All nuts and bolts are M3):
- Remove the original plate and unmount V rollers if the new plate didn't come with replacements.
- Install the new plate onto the printer
- Put the shim on the plate, then screw in the aluminium V6 mount into where the original creality heatsink mounts.
- Screw the motor mount into the motor through the BMG extruder, stack should be Screw>3d Printed motor mount>BMG>Stepper Motor. Don't forget to put the 2 nuts in between the plate and BMG.
- Screw the assembly onto the plate
- Install the hotend fan onto the fan mount using nuts and screws
- Slide the fan mount with hotend fan up from the bottom onto the aluminium heatsink mount
- Put the fan shroud onto the part cooling fan, then screw it into the fan mount
Fusion360 file is provided so you can see how it goes together. May require grinding down bolts a bit. Washers advised. Again, all M3.
This solid and rigid design design requires two cheap and lightweight aftermarket parts listed below, a plate and a mount adapter. On Aliexpress it's a total of less than $7 for a vastly increased reliability, rigidity, and print speed.
XY Acceleration 5000 mm/s^2 with all steppers on SpreadCycle (Creality 4.2.2 board with UART Mod, 900mA stepper current, default motors, ~70C X stepper temp @ 25C ambient)
Marlin Probe Offset 3.15, -41.33 mm. Mesh Inset 42 mmand
Uses the left fan shroud from the following (For this model the right fan shroud still uses the left side (shorter) one, just mirrored)
