This is a follow up to my basic 8/16 port keystone bracket:
I am creating a whole new model instead of uploading revised files to the original because the underlying Fusion360 file is completely different.
This version keeps the same general layout and dimensions but makes some improvements:
- There is now support for cable strain relief. (Details below)
- The front facing “eject hole” is now bigger. I found that only super tiny (and thin/frail) screwdrivers worked with the old model. This now accommodates thicker and more robust screw drivers now.
- There is a small rear facing eject hole as well. Sometimes you have better access to the rear of the keystone panel so this should make it a bit easier to get leverage with a flat-head screwdriver.
Optional strain relief plate
This was the primary reason for re-making the model and is the only “big” change.
I have a few situations where the panel is mounted in a location where cables will naturally droop down which puts a small but constant stress on the cable head / keystone jack and you can see how it all comes together in the attached photo.
There is now an optional part (cable-support-plate.m2v3.step) that attaches to the main body. The strain relief plate can either slide into position from the top or be snapped into position. If needed, the support part can be secured to the main body with 2 optional M3 screws. The channel for the screw shaft/threads has an OD of 2.9 mm and a max depth of 13.85 mm and supports a head OD of up to 6.15 mm. Any m3x8 or m3x10 with a reasonable sized head should work well here.
(see attached screenshot: screw_dimentions.png)
The strain relief plate has cut outs for velcro cable straps (max width ~13mm) or zipties … etc.
There are two rows of anchor points so you can stagger/alternate (as shown in the cover photo) or double up depending on your needs. Experiment before installing so you know what the tradeoffs are. I have thick/long cable ties and it was quite a tight fit unless I either cut the tie short or anchored both the top and bottom cable in the same row.
Printing
The part has ~.15mm print tolerance baked in so any “in-spec” printer should print w/o any issues. You may want to cut the part in slic3r and print a section to confirm that the keystone jacks you have will fit before printing the full thing.
Suggested print orientation provided in attached screenshot but the parts can probably be printed in any orientation.
I used cheap grey PLA with 15% infill and .2mm layer height w/ .6mm nozzle but any material should work.
