Summary
Sensable is a hydroponic planter which connect to a Raspberry Pi / DIY-based IoT kit below. You can put one or two LEDs for 30cm aquariums on it. It is designed for growing herbs, strawberries, leafy vegetables, and other handy-sized plants. You need to water it once a week when you grow "planter-size" plants (around 12.5cm square).
The IoT kit, can measure water depth, CO2, light intensity, temperature, humidity, take photos, upload measured values and photos to Google Cloud (Google Sheets and Google Photos), and send summary and alert mails. The light sensor and the depth sensor can be attached to Sensable as the image above.
You can learn how to use it in detail in the Udemy course below:
How to use
Assemble
* Refer to the assembling movie below. You don't need any screws, nuts, or glue.
Light
- You can put one or two LEDs for 30cm aquariums on it. "LED_bar_short" is for one and "LED_bar_long" is for two.
Growing seeds / nursery plants
- If you would grow plants from its seeds, be sure to prevent drying by covering seeds with toilet paper until the roots have grown out of the sponge. Refer to the attached image above.
- You can use a small bowl to grow from seeds, as you can observe well the water level and the roots. Refer to the attached image above.
- When you buy nursery plants instead of seeds, cut the sponge in the middle, wrap the plants, and set the sponge in the planter. Refer to the attached image above.
Sensors
- When you don't use a depth sensor, instead of a "depth_sensor_attachment", use a "cap".
- VL6180 (depth sensor) and BH1750FVI (light intensity sensor) can be attached with M2 screws (8mm length) and M2 nuts. See the Udemy course below for instructions on how to use sensors.
Food-safety standards
- If you care about food-safety standards, you can apply a coating material that adapt to food-safety standards.
For further information, refer to the Udemy course below:
Print settings
- Adhesion assistants: brim or raft for "tank", "floor", "LED_bar_long", and "supports_long"
- Infill: 20%
- Filament Material: PLA (The clearances are adjusted for PLA.)
