This is a compact holder for regular 1/4" hex bits. It fits snugly in a standard Altoids tin. Print in TPU.

I wanted a compact bit set for an EDC tool kit but the commercial ones were either too bulky or held the bits too tightly.  An Altoids tin holds about the perfect amount of bits for me (45) in a compact package.  There are other Altoids bit holder projects but I didn't want to use the mini bits, so angling the slots 45 degrees allows regular bit use and still lets the lid close fully.

I tried adjusting tolerances for PETG print, but haven't quite gotten that yet.  But TPU prints great and fits both the tin and bits perfectly.  The OpenSCAD model has parameters that you can adjust to fit any other size box or tin as well.

I'm working on closing up the hex slots around the edge since they aren't usable, maybe fitting a slot for a bit driver etc. but thought I'd share here in case others have ideas for improvements.

* One additional tip.  If you print with a brim, it will take up any additional space in the bottom of the tin and make it secure with no wiggle room. The rolled edge of an Altoids tin  doesn’t allow a full volume print to fit into the tin, but I found the brim is perfect for fixing it in place.  Otherwise some glue or double sided tape will work too.
