New V2 version is available - https://www.printables.com/model/1475214-paint-stand-v2 - I'd suggest choosing that one over V1 :)
Hanging your paints from Skadis board or a big stationary stand is great, unless you don’t have enough space for a designated painting nook. Moving paint rack from one place to another get’s more and more cumbersome as your paints collection grow.
There’s quite few different racks, stands, hangers designed for this use case, but most had some short comings - it’s not rotating, it’s rotating but wrong, it’s too big, it’s too small, not compact enough, it fits one kind of paints but not another.
So I went ahead and designed something to fit that need - a modular, rotating, paint stand, that can hold variety of bottle shapes and sizes.
V2
New, more modular, with better extension system and cups variants - can reuse elements and stages from V1 (as well as new elements can be mounted on V1).

V1.5
Some V1 elements took way to long to print. This version includes slimmer RoundRobin, with completetly new mounting system. Instead printing multitude of (Half)Plus pegs, Clamps are mounted directly on a rail.
Clamps can be positioned freely along the rail, mixing different paint sizes, without sacrificing maximum capacity.
- New RoundRobin Rails platforms (V2)
- Slimmer, requires less filament and is faster to print
- New mounting system based on rails
- 3 versions of spokes (Sun, Fork, Organic)
- Redesigned in-place printed bearing
- Modified Clamps (V2) Rail
- Fit RoundRobin Slim
- Doesn't require additional mounting elements
- Clicks right onto the rails
- New SKADIS Rails (V2)
- Uses new rails mounting system
- Has independently printed hooks
- Included extra Clamp sizes.
- Included STEP files for RoundRobin V2, Clamps V2, Skadis V2
- Improved TriangleHandle
Example

Contrary to the previous, wide, stand I had it takes less space on the desk. In the end it fits 52 bottles and some extra jars, texture pens etc. It’s wider than I intended, but the parts come in different sizes, so making tinier one is easy.

Each level spins

Clamps can keep bottles even upside down
Putting things together
There’s quite few parts in this design, but at it’s core it’s just a simple stack + tightening each layer to another with screws:

V2 assembly:
- Make sure the outer side of Clamp rail is locked under RoundRobin outer rail.
- (Put your thumb between Clamps arms and) push the Clamp towards center of the RoundRobin.
- At the same time try to “twist” / “rotate” it, so the Clamps inner rail gets over RoundRobin inner rail and locks against it.

The same method applies to Skadis shelf.
[OLD] V1 assembly:

- use 0.2 layer
- especially for the rotating parts. Otherwise "bearing" might get stuck.
Parts
RoundRobin
This is a rotating plate, which can hold regular paint bottles or jars (ie. Vallejo, Army Painter, Citadel).
Comes in few different sizes, which differs by how many paints they can hold.
Each plate is printed in place and doesn’t require additional bearings to rotate.
| Diameter | no. of Bottles | no. of Jars |
|---|---|---|
| 180mm | 23 | 18 |
| 160mm | 20 | 16 |
| 130mm | 17 | 13 |
| 110mm | 14 | 11 |
Basic RoundRobin plate with Plus holes designed, which will hold Clamps.

Basic RoundRobin plate with Clamps already mounted.

RoundRobin V2 allows to place Clamps freely alongside the rail.

Depending on filament, the bearing might get stuck and won’t rotate. You need to “brake” it in to fix it:

Won’t I brake the entire thing or a spoke? Eh, maybe. Personally I’ve even stand on top of some stubborn prototypes, putting most of my body weight on it and it didn’t brake. Just “feel” it. FYI current design has more tolerance and should not require such drastic methods :D
After braking, make sure to spin the bearing rapidly few dozen of times. This way the filament will grind off some unevenes and make the rotation smoother.
The rotation can be made even smoother by applying a bit of lubricant oil into the bearing.
Clamps
These mounting elements will hold our paints in place.
They come in 2 main sizes - for Vallejo/Army Painter bottles* and Citadel jars.
*- bit smaller and larger fit that size as well (eg. Duncan Rhodes Two Thin Coats or Metal Alchemy).
(I might add more later, when I get dimensions of other popular bottles)
In case there are adhesion issues with Clamps, try increasing “Z Hop when retract” to 0.8mm.
(Filament Settings → Settings Overrides → Z Hop when retract = 0.8mm)
(Filament Settings → Settings Overrides → Z Hop Type = Spiral) // optional, but worked well with increased retract
| Diameter | |
|---|---|
| - | 21mm |
| - | 23mm |
| Vajello, Army Painter | 24.5mm |
| - | 28mm |
| Citadel | 32mm |
| - | 36mm |
| - | 42mm |

Mounting Elements
Plus / HalfPlus
Crude “locking” mechanism to connect Clamps with RoundRobi.
Depending on your dimensional accuracy they might be a bit tight fit, othertimes kind of loose.
In former case forcing them in usually works, as for latter nothing a bit of super glue won’t fix.
HalfPlus - variant of the Plus, which can be printed horizontally, which is much faster. They’re slightly thinnier than Pluses, and miss single side. But provide almost same stability for the Clamps.

Hub Extender
As name suggests they extend default Hubs. RoundRobin platforms can’t lie one on another, but need to be separated by the Extender. This way paint bottles won’t get stuck on those from lower level and allow free rotation of the RoundRobin (and other attachments).
These are mounted to other Hubs via M18 (2.5mm) Screws*.
*- ones on the picture are M12 from prototype phase. But the connection mechanism works the same way :P
There are 2 sizes:
- 18mm (separate RoundRobins etc.)
- 24mm (separate Trays from other layers)

Screws
Printable M18 screws, which are used to attach Hubs (Extenders and attachments) together, forming a proper stand.
PRINT THEM WITH 100% INFILL or 12 WALL LOOPS – otherwise screws like to brake when tightened too hard.
Other Attachments
Tray
Rotating tray for larger bottles, miniatures, brushes, whatever you need.
Comes in sizes:
| Diameter |
|---|
| 180mm |
| 160mm |
| 130mm |
| 110mm |

Brush Cup
As name suggests. Small cup / container where you can put your brushes.
Comes in three variants:
- single cup
- double cups
- single cup in a Tray
| Diameter |
|---|
| 180mm |
| 160mm |
| 130mm |

Bases
Can’t keep it all together without good, robust base.
This element actually will benefit from additional materials - you should glue some rubbery strips so the entire stand doesn’t move about on your desk with every rotation.
There are diferent shapes and two variants of base with slots to store brushes.
As a rule of thumb - the base should be larger than your RoundRobins. It’s the most stable combination.
| Diameter |
|---|
| 225mm |
| 190mm |
| 175mm |
| 130mm |

Handles
From base to top - we need a handle to move this around.
There are 3 variants:
- simple (round)
- triangle (good grip)
- Ork (da bezt!)
- although that one comes in 3 parts and will need some glue

Extras
SKADIS hangers
Because why not and also they are compatible with Clamps and (Half)Plus.
Variants:
- 5x Bottles
- 5x Jars
- 1x Bottle / Jar
If there are any adhesion issues try turning the print 90 degrees. So the bed plate does most travel instead of extruder rail - the latter tends to rip the hook apart during bridging layer. (See .3mf profiles)

Skadis V2 uses the same rail as RoundRobin V2, which means it's easier to fit different sizes with maximum efficiency.
