This is a hot-swap bay designed for a triple CD drive bay, compatible with a SATA backplane from AliExpress. The unit consists of two halves that house the PCB, which slots neatly into place. The halves are secured using four connecting pieces, which are glued in. Each drive is fitted with four TPU dampeners that are screwed on, allowing them to be easily slotted into the bays.
An optional fan can be clamped onto the front for cooling, if desired. This is the first version of the design, and I plan to test it further and make improvements. I’m not entirely satisfied with how the two halves connect and intend to add a locking mechanism for the drives (at the moment the drives are just hold in by friction. Additionally, the fan clamp is a bit tight, making it difficult to remove, so I’m considering redesigning it to swing open for easier access.
Parts needed for this hot-swap bay:
- Screws #6-32 x 8: Link to screws on AliExpress (still wating on delivery, hope they fit)
- SATA backplane: Link to SATA backplane on AliExpress (fits, but not testet if it works)
The design is tested with the Inter-Tech Server Case 3U-3098-S.
The tolerances are pretty small (slot for the pcb), printer needs to be calibratet well.
