The Spherical Geneva Wheel

This is a Geneva mechanism that uses F6901Z Flanged bearings to smoothly rotate when in operation. This model is great for learning how the Geneva mechanism works. It also makes a great desk fidget toy. The drive wheel is driven perpendicular to the output of the Geneva wheel.

Assembly:

You will need 2 x F6901Z Flanged bearings which can be bought online (I will try to adjust the model to make a bearing free version in the future).

Here are all the parts you will need:

First step is to push the bearings into the Stand and Geneva Wheel as follows:

Now take the Geneva Drive Wheel and Drive Washer and centre them on the bearing in the stand. You then want to take the Drive axle and put it through the lot until it is flush with the front of the Drive Wheel.

The next step is to take the two main handle components and the C-clip and assemble them as follows. (The C-clip should press onto the groove on the handle so that it can rotate freely.)

Now you can slide the handle onto the Drive Axle (This can be done at 6 different angles to the Drive Wheel. My personal favourite is to have it facing the opposite direction to the locating pin on the Drive wheel.)

Finally, take the locking nut and thread it onto the end of the Drive Axle to keep all the components together.

Thank you for taking a look at my design. If there are any improvements that you would like to see me make, please leave a comment.
