How does this work
You close the clamp by turning the knob (clockwise) while pressing the lower part against the object. The high pitch (p=10) will move the clamp fast until the second clamp touches the object.
Now the second clamp has contact and the thread starts to move, but it moves a little less then the first clamp (p=8) - so the differential is low and allows to apply 5× more force.
So for the last ½ turn the clamp moves not 10mm/turn but only 2mm/turn - this also generates self-retention. This will compress only 1mm further!
The coil will bring the 2nd end always back into position.
Post print
- As tensile stress on layers is not the ideal for printed parts there is a 3.5mm hole, so you could glue a rod in.
- Use grease as friction need to be kept low
