A storage box for stage headset microphones: it prevents the cable from tangling up.
This model has 4 parts: a spooling bobbin for the cable, a shell and a two-part screw that holds those two together during transport.
There are two versions of this model: one in which the two screw parts are glued together and one in which they are fixed with a M3x10 screw.
It is designed to be relatively flat, so that it fits into a typical microphone box.
Printing
The screw needs a bit of support from the print bed, everything else should be fine without supports. I increases the strength in my prints by chosing a 30% cubic infill.
The 3mf projects already contain good settings. It is easiest if you chose one of the 3mf projects, the glued one or the screwed one and print it (takes about 1.5h using PLA).
Assembly Glued Version
Put a few drops of CA glue (gorilla glue, super glue) into the hexagonal hole in the screw. You really only need a few drops, make sure it does not drip onto the rim or the screw might attach itself to the shell. You can also use other kinds of glue that are compatible with PLA.
Take the shell and insert the screw into the chamfered hole from inside. The hexagonal hole should point to through the hole in the shell. Push the handle into it from the other side - the hexagonal protrusion should fit perfectly.
Make sure the parts stick together while the glue is drying.
Assembly Screwed Version
Insert a square M3 nut into the opening at the base of the hexagonal protrusion of the handle (see pictures). Be careful to not destroy the supports around the nut.
Insert an M3x10 screw from the bottom of the printed screw.
Take the shell and insert the printed screw into the chamfered hole from inside. The hexagonal hole should point to through the hole in the shell. Push the handle into it from the other side - the hexagonal protrusion should fit perfectly. Turn the M3 screw until it is tightened and the screw/handle are fixed to each other. Don't over-tighten the M3 screw - the supports in the handle are fragile.
FreeCAD Design
I included the FreeCAD design, so you can adjust it. It was designed with FreeCAD stable version 0.21.
If you change the length of the screw FC stable will mess up the chamfering of the screw threads and you will have to re-attach the datum plane that it relies upon. The screw works without that chamfering, it's a “luxury item”.
You may also lose some of the rounding at the shell slots. It is recommended to repair those, since they do protect the cable from getting pinched. The slots on the X- and Y-axis get their rounding from sketches attached to the XZ- and YZ-planes. The diagonal slots use sketches attached to datum planes attached to the sides of those slots.
PS
Please also show some love to your power supply and XLR cables. Get some velcro cable ties and use them. Your stage tech will thank you. As will your budget for replacement parts.
