What Is It?

A parametric magnetically assembled 3D printable wet palette, inspired by David Warboss's Wet Palette. Defaults are for a larger palette (~150x150mm) using 2x6mm cylinder magnets to hold the mid body frame into the base. You can also find this palette on my github.

What Should I Print It Out Of?

PETG is probably best; This gives the inner frame a nice flex to fit in, and lets you bend the lid to remove it more easily. I haven't tested any other materials.

Customization

To customize this palette, download ALL of the SCAD files then adjust the values for PaletteBottom.scad, PaletteMid.scad, and PaletteLid.scad in OpenSCAD. PaletteShapes.scad must be in the same folder so that it can be imported into all 3 parts.

On Magnet Tolerances

By default, these print with 0 tolerances for magnet size; In my print of this, this results in a friction fit for the magnets that has held up quite well. If your printer is less accurate, you can increase this tolerance, but if you make it too loose you'll need to glue the magnets in.

Why Make This?

I didn't have the right size of magnets for David's design, so I did the reasonable thing and remade everything from scratch.

Updates Oct 2023

  • I've corrected the lid STL; previously it was a copy of the bottom instead of the larger top lid in the SCAD files.
  • Added independent width/height controls to the OpenSCAD files to make it easier to make rectangular palettes (thanks @Pincoyo for the suggestion). Also added a set of defaults for the OpenSCAD customizer.
  • Added a set of rectangular (150x100mm) STLs.
