Greetings fellow makers!

Project of making DIY NAS was a long time in making, and finely I found some time to more or less finish it. Lets dive into it.

The goal of this project was to create flexible case witch is simple to print, simple to build, does not need insert threads and, very important, very modular. Anyhow this is a firs iteration and suggestions are welcomed.

Used components (disclaimer, this is not sponsored):

  1. NanoPi M4V2 as main unit (yeh, that old, you can use also NanoPi M4B (I did not verified it)) with heat sink
    1. running OpenMediaVault (friendlyelec wiki)
  2. 4x SATA HAT
  3. MEAN WELL 72W 12V 6A Power supply
  4. 120mm 12V silent fan (Artic P12 silent)
    1. I connected it to 5V, enough of air flow and rely silent
    2. disk temperatures are about 26 to 32C
    3. CPU temp is from 35 (no load) to 46C
  5. AC power switch
  6. Computer AC female panel mount socket
  7. up to 4 2.5"  disk
    1. using 2x 2.5" SSD (in raid1/mirror)

All parts were printed using:

  • PLA
  • 0.2mm layer
  • 0.4mm nozzle
  • wall thickness of 3 and top/bottom of 3 layers.

Notes:

  1. Models NAS-pin_x requires god printed precision. It is recommended to print only one part and test it for fitting and, if necessary, downscale it.
  2. Bracket for NanoPi is screwed to heat sink using standard M3 screw

I also included two additional side panels, honeycomb and full, if you liked to use a different single-board computer.

Update 13.2.2025:

  • Adding case for up to 4 3.5" disk with brackets for screw-less mounting.
